He was born Oct. 12, 1911, in Rockport, W.Va., a son of the late Charles and Della Stephens Brown. He was retired from the O'Ames Corporation, a U.S. Army veteran and was a 52-year member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Melvin is survived by one brother, Forrest Brown of Rockport, W.Va; one niece, Betty Adams of Canal Winchester, Ohio; one nephew, Charles Brown and his wife, Brenda, of Grantsville, W.Va; seven great-nieces and nephews; 11 great-great-nieces and nephews; and three great-great-great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Stephens Brown, who passed away in 1999; sister-in-law, Claudine Brown; and nephew-in-law, Paul Adams and a special aunt, Ronna Stephens.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, with the Rev. Jim Burdette officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen South Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today and up until services on Saturday at the funeral home.1
