Vesta F. Fly, 90, of Belpre, died Oct. 21, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born in Wirt County, a daughter of the late Ozias and Docia A. (Deem) Florence. She was a retired Registered Nurse and graduated from Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Cum Laude in 1943 and was a member of Epsilon Sigma Omicron, WVU. She studied parliamentary procedures at West Virginia Wesleyan. Vesta was instrumental, with the help of the Telephone Company and the Vienna Women's Club, in getting pavement at Jackson Jr. High School and a swimming pool and community center at Jackson Park. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a past member of Decatur United Methodist Church, where she was active in the local music community, singing, and playing the organ.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward L. Fly; two daughters, Anne E. Flanagan (Jim) of Liberty, W.Va., and Pamela L. Curtis (George) of Torch, Ohio; a grandson, Thomas E. Curtis (Michelle) of Belpre; a great grandson, Conner E. Curtis; and a nephew, B. Wayne Florence of Charleston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred F. Brumage; and a brother, Emmett Florence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Vernon Snell officiating. Burial will be at the Masonic section of Evergreen Cemetery North. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.1
