Obituary*His obituary published on 7 April 2009; William "Bill" Rogers, 75, of Galion, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. Born July 15, 1933 in West Virginia, he was the son of William Rogers and Ruby Deem Rogers Meyer. He graduated from Ashland High School, and continued his education at Bowling Green State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in journalism. At graduation he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Artillery.

Bill was an avid sports fan. After college, he became assistant sports editor of The Mansfield News Journal and has continued to do sports writing from time to time. He had a passion for Track and Field and was a trusted track historian who was a stickler for details. Bill has been the publicity chairman for the Mansfield Mehock Relays for more than 20 years. He was a board member of the Crawford County, Ashland County, and Mansfield Halls of Fame, and was inducted into the Ashland County Hall of Fame in 2000.
Bill had a 38 year career in the insurance industry as a casualty underwriter with Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Agency and later with Prudential Insurance. He was a member of the Amvets Post #26 and the Moose Lodge. Bill was a generous, kind, and brilliant man who was loved by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Scott Martin Rogers; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Michael Carmel in California, and Donna and Craig Raagas in Oregon; four grandchildren, Chelsea and Taylor Carmel, and Ryan and Allison Raagas; one great-granddaughter Keeleigh Sharron; two stepchildren, Kathy and Shawn Barklow of Columbus, and Michael and Laurie Martin of Vermilion; four grandchildren, Jordan and Katie Barklow; Lindsay (Richard) Geary, and Michael Martin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Ken Meyer; and second wife, Judith Lightfoot Rogers.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Cloyd Kress. Military graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Mehock Relays in care of the funeral home.1
