OBITUARY - MICHAEL DEEM
Deem-Michael was born June 7, 1836 and died Sunday, April 26, 1909, He was married Sept. 18, 1869, to Laura Deem, who with all their seven children, is still living. He was highly esteemed by his neighbors. His was the preacher's home. He was a constant reader of the ADVOCATE. Religion and prohibition of the saloon, and other reforms, were the chief themes of his conversation, Few men were better posted as to current events and reforms than "Uncle Mike." He served his country well in the trying days of 1861-65. He was deeply interested to see that the pastor's salary was paid in full, and he and his faithful wife were always found ready to do their full share. He died of heart failure. As he sank, he said: "l am going" "Where are you going?" said a friend who was standing by "I am going to heaven," said he. by F. C. Bramlett.
