Mrs. Kathryn Deem, age 59 years, died suddenly at her home south of Martinsville Thursday evening at 11:00 o’clock. Although Mrs. Deem had been in ill health for several years she was able to perform her household tasks. She became quite ill at 10:00 o’clock and passed away an hour later. Her death came as a great shock to her family and friends.

The deceased was the daughter of Tobias and Laura Asher Butler and was born in Ray Township, March 24, 1890. She had lived her entire life in Morgan county. She was married to Adam W. Deem 42 years ago.

She was a member of the Samaria Baptist Church, having united with the church at an early age.

Her survivors include the husband, two daughters, Mrs. Gracie Stewart of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Rose Ellen Truesdell of Ellettsville; four sons, Paul Deem in the United States Army stationed in Alaska, Harold Deem of Indianapolis; Wayne and Marvin Deem, both of Monrovia; one Sister, Miss Sally Butler of Indianapolis and one brother Richard Butler, of Indianapolis; two half-sisters, Mrs. Grant Allee of Paragon and Mrs. W.N. Brown of near Martinsville. The parents and two half-brothers, Walter and Eddie Butler and a half-sister, Mrs. Bertha Dow, have preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Samaria Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at two o’clock with Rev. G.W. Adams of Martinsville conducting the services. The songs were sung by a quartet composed of El Hendrickson, Ed Holden, Dan Farr and Clint Hodges. Interment was in the cemetery near the church.1
