Marian Abigail Deem Phillips, 87, of Cairo, WV, died in Camden Clark Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening. She was born in Wood County, W. Va., a daughter of the late Washington L. and Frances Holland Deem. She was a member of the first 4-H Club in Wood County with Hilma Robbins Tebay as leader. She was a 1920 graduate of Parkersburg High School in the first class to graduate from the present school building. She had taught school in Ritchie County for two years. She is survived by two sons, Wendell D. Phillips of Parkersburg and Alvia Earl Phillips of Villa Park, Ill; two daughters, Dolores M. Van Buskirk of Bloomington, Minn., and Pauline M. Corry of Xenia, Ohio; two sisters, Elva Dickson of Parkersburg and Kathryn Coe of Vienna; two brothers, Stewart A. Deem of Chesapeake, Va., and Basil Ray Deem of Sacramento, Calif; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Burl Phillips; and one grandchild. Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Randall Fordham officiating. Burial will be in the Cairo IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.
