Note*George A Deems THE DEEMS CONNECTION, 11th EDITION

George A Deems offered his daughter Anna Belle, and her husband 40 acres in illinois or 80 acres in Iowa after their first child was born. Rex their first born was born in Illinois on their way to Iowa. Ossian bought 160 acres in Iowa to go with the 80 acres given by his father-in-law. Ossian wanted to give the farm to Rex but he wanted to be an auto mechanic. Ossian agreed and he then went back to Centerville, PA with his wife and son Robert. Stayed only a few years waiting for Robert to graduate from High School in Centerville, PA. Ossians children were all in Iowa so he decided to go back to Centerville, Iowa. Anna Belle Deems bought the organ for the Centerville United Methodist Church. The Deems farm was across from the church and down the curved road (Route 481). Robert thinks that his father was named by a brother Benjamin Thistlewaite. Late in life after George Deems passed away, his wife rented the farm and built a small home in Centerville on the edge of the farm down the road from the church. She lived there with her garnddaughter, Marjoris Thistlewaite, who was mentally retarded. When Mrs. Deems passed away she had her estate tied up, I believe for the granddaughter. The late State Senator William J. Lane handled the estate. Marjorie never married. I believe she died in a mental institution in Somerset County, PA. She was apparently buried there. Was supposed to have been buried with her Deems grandparents at Taylor Cemetery, Centerville, PA. George A Deems died the 1st of August 1909. Mary E. Deems his wife died the 17th of September 1933. Among fathers papers there is an inventory of George A's estate. His brother Lewis N. was the executer with George's wife Mary E. I also found a deed to Lewis N. Deems from a Ella Deems for 35 acres in West Pike Run Township, Washington County, PA. The deed is dated 25th of October 1915.
