John Deems, was also a native of the county, and here learned the carpenter and wagon-making trades. When a young man he was married to Mary Reynolds, a native of Fayette county, Penn., who bore him nine children, namely: Mary, wife of Lewis Duvall, a farmer of Hopewell township, Washington Co., Penn; Martha, widow of Nickson Ailes, a resident of California, Penn; Sarah J., widow of S. W. Rogers, of Beallsville, Penn; George R., whose name opens this sketch; Margaret E., wife of Robert Elwood, a resident of Beallsville; Cornelia, married to John D. Springle, a boat builder of Brownsville, Penn; Frank, living in Ottumwa, Iowa; Elizabeth and Jacob R., both deceased. The father died soon after the birth of his youngest child; his widow is now living, at the age of seventy-seven years, with her daughter, Mrs. Rogers, in the village of Beallsville.

February Orphans Court, Book C, page 209, 1853 #16 Petition was presented. Mary Deems, mother asks the court to appoint a guardian for her minor children under the age of 14, Sarah Jane, George R, Margaret Eliza, Jacob R and Cornelia Deems. The court appointed Mark Deems. Item #17 through Item #20 covered individual petitions of John Francis, Mary, Martha and Elizabeth Ann Deems. In May Orphans Court, Book G, Page 242, Mary Deems wife of John presented a petition for John Francis Deems and other minor children to appoint a new guardian for them because Mark Deems was now the administrator for the estate. Whereupon the court appointed William Mitchner, guardian of the minor children on August 8, 1853.

Marriage*He married Mary Reynolds, daughter of Jacob Reynolds, on 1 January 1833 at Jefferson County, Ohio. 
Death*John Deems II died on 18 November 1852 at Green County, IL.
