Mr. John Grren Deems died at his home in Pleasant Gap Township, January 21st, 1898 after suffering for many weeks with kidney complications and old age. The deceased was born on Washington County, PA February 22, 1812 and was 83 years, 10 months and 29 days old. He was married to Abigal Buffington, March 31, 1839 and to this union was born 16 children, eight of whom are still living. His aged wife and six children were present at his death. Mr. Deem moved from Washington County, PA to Lee County, Iowa in 1844 and in 1860 he moved to Scotland County, Missouri, in 1865 to Bated County, Missouri and settled in Lone Oak Township and in 1873 he moved to Pleasant Gap Township where he lived ever since. The deceased was akind and faithful husband, and an indulgent father, a good neighbor and an upright and honorable man in every respect, and was respected by all who knew him. Mrs. Deems appreciated the kindness bestowed by the neighbors during her husbands illness, and their sympathy in her bereavement.
He and Abigal are both buried in Fairview Cemetery, between Butler & Appleton City, Missouri.
